Everything You Need To Know

Do you take walk-ins or do I need to book in advance?

We welcome walk-ins whenever a chair is free, but appointments always take priority. To guarantee your time and avoid waiting, we strongly recommend booking online through Kitomba (Ponsonby) or Fresha (Remuera).

Are you open on Sundays?

Yes. Both locations open on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Ponsonby operates seven days a week, while Remuera opens Wednesday through Sunday. Sunday appointments fill up quickly, so early booking is advised.

What is your cancellation and late policy?

We charge 50% of the booked service if you cancel within 90 minutes of your appointment. For unnotified no-shows, 100% of the service is charged. If no-shows happen more than twice, we cannot accept future bookings. If you are running late, please call the shop immediately.

Can I choose or request a specific barber?

Yes. When reserving online or by phone, you can select your preferred craftsman. Explore our Barbers page to view our team's backgrounds, specialisms, and primary shop locations.

Do you offer services for children and women?

Yes. We offer Child Haircuts ($35) for active kids and classic scissor styling for women. In addition, our 352 Remuera Road salon features a dedicated nail studio providing gel manicures, pedicures, builder gel, and nail art.

What products do you use and can I buy them in the shop?

We exclusively stock Layrite Deluxe, Uppercut Deluxe, Proraso Firenze, and Formidable. Every wax, pomade, shaving soap, and beard oil we use in the chair is available for purchase at our front counters.

What does 'Tokoya' (床屋) mean?

Tokoya is the traditional Japanese word for 'barbershop'. Founded in 2015 by master barber Kaisei Sarai, the name symbolizes Japanese discipline, punctuality, and the concept of grooming as a calm, respected ritual.
